Drill Hall Memorials

Memorials within the Drill Hall at The Artillery Ground, Whiteladies Road, Clifton, Bristol

The Drill Hall contains several memorials and plaques commemorating the losses of both world wars from other buildings that were demolished or repurposed.: 2 x Mosaic Plaques from the Trinity Methodist Church in Whiteladies Road which was demolished in 1978. South Midland Divisional Royal Engineers which was taken from Speedwell Drill Hall, Whitefield Road before it was demolished. Both their WW1 and WW11 memorials are now in the Drill Hall. 1st South Midland 240th Brigade R.F.A. had a carved wooden memorial of a 18 pdr gun and team.

A wooden framed memorial to the members of the 6th Maritime Regiment Royal Artillery is in Thornbury Church as Thornbury was their headquarters from 1942 -1945. A wooden memorial to members of the Children's Church is in storage.

44th Royal Tank Regiment

The headquarters of 44th Tanks was in the Drill Hall, Old Market, Bristol. On closing it became a GPO sorting office, and is now residential flats.

Kenneth Coryton Powell, Squadron Leader, 37888, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Died 7 September 1943, aged 33. He was the son of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Powell, of Bristol.

Kenneth Harold Rowlands, Pilot officer 86348, 152 Sqdn, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
