Bristol Gunners

Contact

My name is Ray Thomas and I enlisted in 266 (Gloucestershire Volunteer Artillery) Observation Post Battery on 31 August 1982.and left as a sergeant on 18 July 1997, after serving for 14 years, 320 days. During that time the battery had re-roled as 266 Para Battery , Royal Horse Artillery (RHA) and was using 105mm Light Guns instead of the 25pdrs it started with.

This site is based on Battery Sergeant Major Derek Driscoll's History of Bristol Gunners that was online from 2003 to 2008 and from 2013 to 2016, and the short-lived "The Bristol Gunners" site that was online in 2018.

Any errors on this site are entirely mine and if you can correct anything I have written or add new material then I can be contacted at:

104th Regiment Royal Artillery

In 2017, 266 Battery re-roled back to L118 Light Gun and currently operates as part of 104 Regiment Royal Artillery who are part of 1st Deep Reconnaissance Strike Brigade Combat Team, providing gun sections, fire support teams (FSTs), and Command Post (CP) personnel.

The work is not always easy but jjoining the Regiment is a worthwhile, rewarding use of your time. An application form is on the MOD site.
